Ride Day #29 - Greetings from Vermont

Another fun day today! (and a short ride which is always welcomed after several long rides in a row)....

We rode out of the Adirondacks and then jumped on a ferry boat to cross the Champlain River and enter Vermont.

Vermont greeted us with a slight rain, TONS of potholes and many hills...but, the scenery made up for it! We rode thru some really pretty farms....and then into Middlebury. (Middlebury is a town which was settled shortly after the Revolutionary War / it's located on the west border/central).

We will stay here tonight and then have a full day of rest tomorrow as well. This should be a really nice town to 'rest' in for the next 36 hours... a college town....VERY charming...a 'typical' New England town with alot of American history. I'm looking forward to exploring tomorrow!

This is our last 'rest day'...once we start riding again (on Friday) we will have only 6 more riding days (I'm already experiencing mixed feelings / happy to go home to my family, friends and doggie but sad to have this wonderful ride come to an end)....

Anyhow.....a few photos from today....

We stopped at Fort Ticonderoga ...a lot of stuff went down in this area...battles, wars...American history....

Another state crossing!

A beautiful Vermont farming valley....

  1. Jeanette,

I thought my traveling days were over......your putting the bug in me again. Even dad said he wanted to go to upstate New York.

Your mixed feelings are understandable. I love Suki and will be happy and sad to see her go home.

Looking forward to your next few days.

Have fun, heart looking up, eyes down searching for the pot holes.

    Love you,

  2. A ferry boat?!! Now that sounds like my kind of bike tour. Do they serve cocktails on board?

    Have a great Vermont-ian b-day celebration.

  3. Hey Jeanette, Yovo here! Really been enjoying your blog... A very good friend of mine, in fact my mentor in my archival career, summers in Vermont when she's not teaching...cannot remember the town for the life of me, but she bought an old farm house that she's been restoring the past few years when not teaching in Louisiana--been wanting to visit that state for ages. Have a fabulous finish to a great ride/trip and safe travels home.

  4. J. Happy Birthday my dear friend! I can't think of a better way to celebrate - except for maybe a bowling blowout in a hummer limo!! Have a fantastic day. Much love to you!! Gina
