Ride Day #15 - A true 'claim to fame'....

I'm now in Huntington, Indiana.....and their 'claim to fame' is the hand-breaded pork chop sandwich and Dan Quayle. Imagine that! Both of these national treasures in one town!

We cycled 71 miles today -- basically heading directly east as we make our way thru Indiana and into Ohio (we'll be in Ohio tomorrow).

Had a really nice ride today. It actually felt like a 'normal' day of riding...which means we weren't fighting any head winds ... Nor did we enjoy any tailwinds. Just some 'normal' riding conditions. I felt really strong today....we had a good rhythm riding as a group ( I rode with about 6 other strong riders the entire day.) It was little 'sticky' (humid) but overall a good day!

We had a chance to ride through the Salmonie River State Park...it was a beautiful ride. We rode for several miles under the canopy of the forest. It was really fun as there were many gentle rolling hills and the forest kept us shaded and cool. The state park is hundreds of acres of the natural forest. Big beautiful maple, oak, ash and elm trees. Very dense...very green. It really gave me a sense of what this area looked like prior to all these acres being cleared for farming!

Not much new or terribly interesting about today...but I still had a blast!
Will need a good night of sleep as we have an 83 mile day tomorrow (will be in Defiance, Ohio ( hmmmm...can't wait to see that small town!!)

A couple of photos ....

A snapshot of the forest.....

One of the farmers had these two old 'out houses' along side the road. Since there's not much happening out here in Indiana land....this was the 'highlight' photo of the day....(small town fun).

  2. You're my Hero JJ! Went for a bike ride with Booby Trap on Saturday...9 miles out and 9 miles back, with what seemed like LOTS of hills, and it kicked my butt! You're AMAZING!! :)

  3. Love the his and her toilets. So happy to hear you had a "normal" day. Enough of the head winds already! Hope conditions are like this for the rest of the trip. Beautiful forest. Looks like a nice road for a Sunday drive - in a car. Say hello to Mr. Potatoe Head for me, if you see him.
