A BEAUTIFUL ride today (55 miles). Absolutely beautiful! One of the prettiest so far!
We are now in Erie, Pennsylvania which is the northwest corner of the state.
On our route leaving Ohio, we were able to ride more of the 'Rails to Trails' bike paths (paved/covered up old railroad tracks) which is always such a treat. We also passed thru the historic town of Ashtabula...making a stop at the Hubbard House (famous for it's history with the "underground railroad").
We then rode many miles along Lake Erie -- it was so spectacular! At one point we stopped at a park to just take in the beautiful views. It was awesome! I know I've said it before...I just can't stop saying it.....I can't believe the size of this lake!
Ultimately, we made our way into Pennsylvania ....the route became slightly more 'hilly'....We passed by acres & acres of Christmas tree farms and grape orchards (this region is a big supplier of the Welches grape juice).... we also passed by many quaint fruits and veggie stands.
I stopped at a local bike store today (for a minor repair)... The guys in the shop said we are entering some really beautiful riding country just now and we will absolutely love the ride going forward! I was thrilled with what we've seen in the previous states...but i've got a feeling I'm really going to love these remaining 5 states!
That's it for now...need to eat, get the bike cleaned up a bit...tomorrow is a big day -- we will do 91 miles as we work our way into New York.
A few photos from today....
Enjoying the beautiful day....so carefree .....playing like kids.....
This picture doesn't really capture the beauty...the water was actually 3 different colors...light brown from the sand...and then a beautiful turquoise and then rich blue. I was standing on a cliff about 50 feet above the water...it was spectacular!
The posse today....

Hence the name "The Great Lakes"
ReplyDeleteLake Erie is the 4th largest of the 5.
Knowing the ride is just going to get better must also be a big mental help to reach your destination. I need mental help - uuh - to get to work I mean - only 3 miles away.
Hi Jeanette,
ReplyDeleteNo post for today? You must be tired from your long ride today. Hope you had a great day and I will check later... Love Sister
