Today we rode a measly 53 miles....about 40 of those miles we rode parallel to Lake Erie. This lake looks like an ocean....it is HUGE. Almost the entire ride today felt like I was moving down Pacific Coast Highway. It was so fun and beautiful. There are a zillion lakeside homes (from mobile trailers...to cottages...to full blown estates!!)
We went thru many little 'beachy' towns. Every other store was either a fishing/tackle shop or a cafe/pub.
Right at about mile 40 we got blasted on by pouring down rain! It was almost comical. Then it started to get dangerous as we approached downtown Cleveland. There were so many pot holes. The streets filled up quickly with water --- and it was scary because we couldn't tell how deep the potholes were or where the cracks in the road were.... I was holding on for dear life on a couple of streets! It was CRAZY!
We finally made it to the hotel....we were soaked to the bone and freezing. I rode with four other gals and as soon as we all pulled into the hotel lobby (dripping wet with our muddy bikes) we all looked at each other with this look of total relief ....and then we gave each other the biggest "High 5"!!! Everyone felt as I did in terms of the accomplishment of handling the last 13 miles ((( I don't have any pictures of the last 13 miles as I was afraid to take my hands off the handle bars!))).
So, 3 hours later.....I sit here in my hotel room...showered out of my soaked riding clothes and finally warm. The sun is out, it's shining, wind looks like it's stopped blowing...streets look dry. Go figure!!!I Guess someone's prayers got mixed up.....I asked for perfect 'bicycling' weather.....not perfect 'blogging ' weather!!!
We will have a 'rest day' tomorrow (I'm actually going to venture out into the city and go to the 'Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame)... then back in the saddle on Sunday!
Here's a summary thus far....
22 days total.....
19 riding days...
7 states...
1,312 miles....
I am now half way done with this journey....
Honestly, I'm having a difficult time remembering all the places I've been in and many of them are blending together in my mind.
That said...one thing I am very clear about is that every day I wake up happy.
Happy to have this opportunity...
Happy to have my health....
Happy to have my freedom....
Happy to have my life!
A couple of photos from today.....
The gals told me I am NOT an official member of their club yet.
They are all part of the W.O.W. Club
'W.O.W.' as in 'Women On Wheels' ???? No....it's 'WRINKLES On Wheels' (the average age in our group is 62 years old!
A photo opportunity at one of the towns along Lake Erie...

Sounds like an interesting ride today with all the different sights.
ReplyDeleteI've come to learn that I have to keep pedaling through holes and over bumps or else my saggy chain will fall off the sprockets.
Glad you made it to your destination today without falling into a bottomless asphalt pothole.
