Had an easy day today...only 48 miles on our route ! I'm now in Bowling Green, Ohio (about 125 miles west of Cleveland).
We had such a beautiful ride today...we cycled for miles and miles along the Maumee River ( which flows for 137 miles and then feeds into Lake Erie). At one point, we even cycled on a dirt path for several miles under a canopy of trees...the birds were singing...the sun was shining....it was really a highlight of the day. I took a moment off my bike to get close to the water! It was beautiful!
We rode mostly in the 'country' vs riding in a 'rural area'. There were many beautiful country homes and pastures to look at ( some of these properties have front yards which are a couple of acres....the front yards are like pastures except they are perfectly manicured ( we saw country homes that looked like 'estates' - small castles -- clearly this area is one of the more prosperous areas).
About half way thru the ride, we approached a town that smelled 'umm umm good'...
We kept pedaling and saying 'what is that smell?" ( you see, by now...we are all too familiar with cow and pig manure-- this was something different....a welcomed scent!) -- A few more turns and there it was.... The monstrous-sized manufacturing plant of Campbells (seriously, I've never seen a manufacturing plant so big!). Then we quickly put it together...the air was full of fragrance from cooking tomatoes - Umm Umm good !!!!
I won't bother commenting about the wind and heat today. Let's just accept that this is probably what we'll deal with on this trip. (I won't mention that they had 'record breaking' heat here today!)
Anyhow.....another great day. We'll head to Huron, Ohio tomorrow (and the day after we'll be in Cleveland).
A couple of photos...
Taking a moment along the Maumee River....What a great way to start the morning!
No wind, rain, heat or fallen trees can stop us....
Sure beats 'farm fragrance'....

Temps. have been record breaking here too, high 90,s and yesterday 103. Our air has been out and I have not been as charitable as you - no sleep at night = pretty crabby me. But look at you go no matter what! You ARE truly an inspiration! Your dad and nephews are 100 miles north of here fishing. John called last night to tell me they were freezing - I couldn't be too sympathetic - it was still 97 degrees here - 93 in the house. They CAN turn up the heat or add more clothes. Oh well, as Christine said, it should all cool down for awhile, so enjoy! I'm loving reading about your trip. Ever thought of being a travel journalist?
ReplyDeleteLove, Dee
Sounds like a nice day. Can't believe your tour is taking you off road. That must be tough on your bike and give you the jiggles. Enjoy!
