Ride Day #1.....One word to describe it......

BRUTAL.

57.97 miles but it felt like 100 miles....
Without exaggeration (seriously) we had head winds 90-95% of the day....
The wind just blew and blew and blew the ENTIRE day....20-25 mph...with gusts up to 30+ mph!
Several points throughout the day I felt like I had to really hold on to keep upright!
We had a little rain... I would have preferred pouring rain over the wind!

They say Minnesota is " land of lakes" -- we rode by so many beautiful bodies of water.... But I'm not convinced they were 'lakes' cause there were white cap WAVES on the water-- the wind was really something!!!

I am in awe of some of these ladies... They make 60+ years of age look amazing....
They all are out in a bar now ......and I'm laying here... knees elevated with ice (( maybe I should ask one of them to bring me some vodka and a couple of olives!!!)))

When all is said and done... And at end of this day.... I'm still smiln' and livin' the dream!
( note the photo of me in Fargo .... It's before we began to ride...I was still smilin!)

  1. OMG! Just being in Fargo would be my first challenge! Headwinds suck, that's for sure but it will make you a stronger rider in the days that follow :-)

  2. Jennette, The flight there is and was a challenge. You are an animal and dont forget it. Can you rest or take the escort van along the way? keep up the competetive attitude.. We are all supporting you..

  3. Oooo i hate head winds - that's why we bought a car and i only had to ride 3 miles. This is such a great photo. Grandma mentioned Fargo every now and then so it should ring a bell. Fargo was also a 1996 film; won 2 Oscar nominations out of 7 plus an award at the Cannes Film Fest. Hope this wind thing changes directions fast so that your knees can work for you. Looking forward to more good news and pix. On weather.com it seems the winds have died down to something within reason but still rain and T-storms. i thinking the weather is going to follow you for sometime - ewe. Best of luck.
